Standing in a Holding Pattern

Do you ever feel like you're standing in a holding pattern waiting for something totally amazing to happen but you're just not quiet sure what it is.  Lately I feel like life has been all about waiting patiently to see what God has in store for us.  Sometimes the waiting part seems to take FOREVER.  Derek and I have been playing around with the idea of purchasing our first home but every time we start the process God seems to through us some sign that says, "Nope, not yet! I have bigger and better plans!"

The last few months two verses have been rolling around in my head.  "For I know the plans I have for you," and " I am fearfully and wonderfully made!"  In today's society, and I'm sure in the past too, it's soo easy to get caught up in the things that we don't have and can't do.  How easy it is to sit and compare our lives to others.  I have found myself jealous of how others seem to have things together while my 5 year plan is well still just a plan.  Maybe we set ourselves up for failure and disappointment when we begin to create our 5/10/15/life-long plans.  Daily I have to remind myself that only God knows my plan and His plan is definitely bigger than my plan.

Summer of 2015

I have officially finished my 6th year of teaching!  I have enjoyed teaching my 3rd/4th grade combination class immensely.  This was my first experience teaching two grade levels and I enjoyed being able to change up my normal routine and teach both groups.  This summer I will again be working at A.I.D. and also working at a summer camp.  I am looking forward to a few vacations. I'm excited to meet my twin nephews for the first time this summer.  I will also be doing some additional Microsoft training this summer.

Derek is working as a security analysis full time.   We decided we would take on the challenge of running a Spartan Race together this August.  The race is 8 + miles with 21+ obstacles.  We have started training and I have enjoyed being able to spend a little time with Derek running trails at the park and figuring out how to climb ropes, do pull-ups, and throw spears.   Soon we will take on the challenge of crawling under barbed wire and climbing over walls. We will be joining with one of his co-workers and his wife.

Derek and I will be celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary this week!  I am so thankful to have him by my side and couldn't imagine life without him.

Half Way through January already!

Hard to believe January is almost half over!

I just finished my second week of teaching.  Week one consisted of a day of staff meetings and one day of teaching.  We had 3 snow days to end the week. This was my first full week of school and I really enjoyed myself.  The kids and I are getting to know each other and things have been running reasonably smooth so far.

Derek returned from Mississippi last week. While there they cut down about 300 trees.  He was pleased with how much clean-up they were able to do.

2014 in Review

Wow! Where has the year gone!?!?!  It's tough to believe tomorrow will be 2015.  I haven't been very good about blogging lately soo  I figured let's start the year out right =)

Derek has finished JJC with 2 associates degrees!  He finished his last semester with 6 out of 7 A's!  He has been looking for a job and also considering going to get his bachelors degree. He has taken several certification tests in the last few months.

I have continued to work at my A.I.D. but my last day is Friday. I have been trying to get into the habit of working out daily and have met some great new friends at my workout class Sunday night as well as through an online workout group.  We had a ton of fun hanging out with one of them at Starved Rock this fall.

2015 News!!
Derek will be going to Mississippi January 4th for a week to help with tornado clean up after the recent tornado that hit near Columbia Mississippi last week.  I will be beginning to teach at a new school January 5th! I am incredibly excited to be back in the classroom again.  I will be teaching a 3rd and 4th grade combination class and Jr. High Math and St. Luke's Lutheran School. The school is about 20 minutes from my parents house.   I am looking forward to being back in the classroom again!

September Goal Review and October

Wow! How did it get to be September so quickly!

Septembers goals included:

GOAL 1: Complete my portfolio for my Masters Degree
I've been putting this portfolio off for far too long.  There are 6 sections and I simply need to have 21 examples with small explanations in order to complete this task.  Each week I will need to complete 2 sections or more.
DID NOT FINISH: GOAL TO BE CONTINUED!

GOAL 2: Workout at LEAST 3 times a week (NOT counting Sunday workout class)
My health is important. I want to be in the best shape possible for myself, Derek, and our future children.
EVERY week I worked out at least 3 times!!

GOAL 3: Make AND send at least 3 people cards
I love to make cards but then I always seem to forget them.
Sent 5 cards!

GOAL 4: Take time to enjoy life with family and friends and build stronger relationships
Now that I am back to work full time and Derek is in school full time and working part time it will be important to take whatever free time I can get to spend time with Derek.  Time without electronics!
Went to dinner with Derek 2 nights, spend time helping clean up homes hit by storms together, and went shopping together.

GOAL 5: Devotions and Read More
I keep saying I need to read more and start my day or end my night with devotions.
Read a devotion at least 3 times a week. Started a new book this week

GOAL 1:  Finish Portfolio
Didn't finish last month and need to finish!
Goal 2: Workout 3 times a week
Continued from last month
Goal 3: NO fast food
No fast food to not only eat healthier but also to save money
Goal 4: Make and send 5 cards
Loved being able to brighten peoples day by sending cards and want to continue
Goal 5: Go on a no money date with Derek at least two times
This month is all about saving money but still enjoying time with Derek!

September Goals

GOALS.... for some reason this word has always sort of scared me. Perhaps it's not the word but the possibility that I will not finish or complete the goal that scares me.  I have a tendency to shy away from writing down or telling people my goals for fear of not completing them and disappointing not only myself but others as well.  SO this is the month where I put it out there. Perhaps its my way of proving to myself  that I can indeed complete goals.

GOAL 1: Complete my portfolio for my Masters Degree
I've been putting this portfolio off for far too long.  There are 6 sections and I simply need to have 21 examples with small explanations in order to complete this task.  Each week I will need to complete 2 sections or more.

Summer Update

Wow! It's been quiet awhile since I've updated our blog!  Time sees to just get away when you are working.  Since last time I wrote I accepted an interim teaching position at Cross Lutheran School in Yorkville for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year teaching junior high.  Cross is also the school I attended as a student. I enjoyed teaching alongside with some of the same teachers who once taught me.  However, Derek and I knew there was a very strong chance I would not be hired back and so I am again on the job hunt for a teaching position.  When I accepted the job we both decided it would be best for me to happy for a few months and figure it out from there.

Currently, I am working two part-time jobs.  I've been picking up hours at my old job working with mentally and handicapped adults and also at a summer school. We are praying that I am able to find a full time teaching job or some other full time job after summer. Please keeps us in your prayers.

Derek is currently still taking classes at JJC.  He finished his spring semester with 6 A's!  He is taking a few general education classes this summer and will wrap up two degrees in December.  I have to chuckle because I've sent out probably 100 different job applications and he has sent in a few and heard from each employer within 24 hours and even been offered a few jobs!

We recently attended his nieces graduation in Wisconsin.  Derek was one proud uncle =)

Derek and I ran a 5k in May that has sparked an interest in working out.  I took an 8 week workout class and can't wait til August for it to start again. Derek has been running and biking several times a week and would like to eventually complete an IronMan or a triathlon.  I told him I couldn't do a triathlon since I'm a horrible swimmer and would probably drown =).  I have been running several times a week and thanks to my parents who bought me a Garmin VivoFit watch I can not track my runs better.  My mom and I have a friendly competition of who can walk the most steps each day.

Blessings to you all this summer!
